NEW STREET UMCs PROGRAM MINISTRIES/OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to Morning Worship — Sundays, 10:00 to 11:00 AM
Sunday School for Children — Sundays, 10:15 to 11:00 AM
Music Ministry — Active Chancel Choir; rehearses Thursday evenings, 7:15 PM (except summer months); All interested are welcome! Provides weekly music for worship, as well as special seasonal music
United Methodist Women — usually meets monthly; missions, devotions, fellowship & service; Active at District level as well as locally
New Street UMC Men’s Fellowship — meets for breakfast, 1st Saturday of each month (except July & August); fellowship, service/ work projects; & good food
Sunday Fellowship — food & fellowship time on the 1st Sunday of each month; from 11 to 11:30 AM, in the church Fellowship Hall
Prayer Ministry — Active Prayer Chain via phone and E-Mail
Scouting Ministry — BSA Troop 33, sponsored by New Street UMC, meets Tuesday evenings at 7 PM. in the Troop Room; our Scouting Ministry also provides meeting space for Cub Scouting & Girl Scouting

JCCM Update

At the November 17 JCCM Board meeting the following information was reported. The JCCM Food Bank served 257 households and 803 people in the month of October. 21,641 pounds of food was distributed. The Food Pantry received 21,855 pounds of food from churches, other organizations & business, and individuals. Churches gave 5,935 pounds and News Street UMC gave 204 pounds! Thanks!

140 turkeys have been donated from a Locust Hill Golf Club fund raiser and the town of Bolivar to give to clients for Thanksgiving.

We continue to see an average of 30 new clients each month.

Food Pantry Needs: tooth paste, tooth brushes, canned fruit, canned meat, canned soups, jelly, pancake syrup, spaghetti noodles, soup, crackers, peanut butter, rice, apple sauce, sugar, flour, salt, pork & beans, canned yams, and cranberry sauce.

Clothing Closet Needs: new underwear for men, women, and children.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Adopt-A-Family program sponsored by Jefferson County Community Ministries needs volunteers to help churches, organizations, & individuals unload their Adopt-A-Family gifts at the Zion Episcopal Parish House in Charles Town (across from Charles Town Library on East Washington Street) on December 14, 15, 16 from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. If you can help contact Zion Episcopal Church office at (304)725-5312.
We need a 1-2 volunteers to help transport our Adopt-A-Family gifts to Zion Episcopal Parish House on one of the drop off dates – December 14, 15, 16 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Please let Pastor Dee-Ann know if you are available.
We need readers for the 11:00 p.m. Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve. Contact Pastor Dee-Ann if you would like to read.
We need people to sign up for the Fellowship Hour in December. Help us share the gift of hospitality to our visitors and church family. Sign-up sheets are in the Fellowship Hall.

ADOPT-A-FAMILY

Each Advent-Christmas season, New Street provides Christmas gifts for several families through the Jefferson County Community Ministries Adopt-A-Family program. Gifts go to needy families in the county. We hope to adopt 2-3 families. In the Fellowship Hall you will find a table with gift tags that have gift suggestions for individuals in the family. Take a tag and bring back the gift (attach the tag) to the church by December 15. Watch for more details as more information is made available.

Operation Christmas Child Update

On October 14, the children and adults of New Street packaged shoe box sided containers with gifts for children through out the world who have experienced poverty, war and nature disasters. Our goal was to collect gifts, containers and package the containers for 30. We doubled our efforts by providing gifts for 63 boxes! Diane and Jim Price, delivered our gift containers to the designated drop off place during the week of November 16. We also were able to give $441.00 to help defray the cost of shipping the gifts. This $441.00 donation was raised through the Peach Festival in August and the September Giving Box. Through “Operation Christmas Child” we are giving hope to children who have very little. “Operation Christmas Child” is a mission project of Samaritan’s Purse. Thanks goes to Jim & Diane Price for delivering the gifts and organizing this church wide project, to all who contributed containers, gifts and time to package & wrap the containers, the Children’s Sunday School, Peach Festival, and all who participated in some way toward making this project a success!

APPORTIONMENTS – AN UPDATE

In the past 4 months, our congregation has been stepping up to the plate to pay our 2009 apportionments. When we pay our apportionments we participate in the United Methodist connection, sharing our gifts in mission and ministry. For 2009 our goal has been to pay 65% of our apportioned share which is $12,694. We have paid (as of 11/15): $11,015.75. At the time of this article, we need to raise $1,678.75 to meet the 2009 apportionment goal by December 31, 2009 or have a part-time pastor beginning in the 2010 new appointment year. New Street leaders and the Finance Committee are confident that we will go the second mile and want to thank you in advance for your extra mile giving.

Support Friends In Action Families

Friends in Action have a couple of new families with needs. They are looking for clothing. We are seeking girls clothing size 3 and 4, boys clothing size 18 months and size 8, jr. women’s clothing size 5 or medium and men’s clothing, pants size 36 X 30 and extra large shirts, tee shirts. We are also looking for a van for one of our families. Theirs was burned in a fire that started in a trailer adjacent to theirs. Their auto insurance didn’t cover fires. They have 6 children, so they really need a van. Reeders Christmas Gift Project

“We have been asked to furnish Christmas gifts for Reeders as we have done for many years. Suggested gifts are Kleenex, Puffs, Scott’s brand facial tissues, Gillette Good News disposable razors, deodorant, costume jewelry, lotion, night eye masks, sunglasses, toothbrushes, hair brushes, Shaving cream, denture tablets, candy, toothpaste, hand sanitizer wipes, instant dry nail polish, scented body spray, polish remover, birthday cards, perfume/cologne, sugar free candy, make-up, craft supplies, CD’s, DVD’s. Gifts should not be wrapped. There will be a box in the Narthex for you to place your gifts. Gifts can be collected through November 29.
