Summer Sermon Series
Summer Sermon Series: Who Is Jesus? Seeing Jesus through Different Lens. We will explore how each Gospel, Paul and other religious traditions see Jesus. The question we will be reflecting on is, Who is Jesus for YOU? Pastor Dee-Ann will be using the book, “Who Is Jesus?” by Judy Siker. You are encouraged to read the scripture lesson/s beforehand!
- August 6 – Jesus according to Paul; read 1Corinthians 1-2; 2 Corinthians 5; Philippians 2; Acts 18
- August 13- Jesus according to Hebrews; read Hebrews1-6, 12-18
- August 20 – Jesus through the eyes of Abrahamic Faith (Judaism, Christianity, Islam); read Genesis 12, Matthew 1, Galatians 3-4
Newsletter Deadline for September Issue

The due date for items for the combined September issue is Aug. 20 There are several ways to get this information into the monthly newsletters. Information can be dropped off in the hall way across from Rev. Dixon’s office in the mail box marked “Newsletter” or email to email@example.com. Volunteers will also be needed for the September 2017 Newsletter on Wed. Aug. 30, 2017, starting at 9:45 am. Volunteers are needed to help with folding, sealing, and labeling the Newsletters monthly. Help Youth “Buy A Cow”: During Teen Week, the 20 youth were inspired to give the gift of a cow through Heifer International to an impoverished family in Africa, Asia, or South America. This gift will not only uplift a family but a whole community. The youth’s mission is to educate and fundraise for the $500 so they can gift a cow. Watch for more details on educational/fundraising events. If you would like to donate to this Teen Week project write your checks to New Street UMC and write COW PROJECT in the memo. Global Leadership Summit
Pastor Dee-Ann & David Gross will be attending the Global Leadership Summit in Frederick, Aug. 10-11, 2017. To contact Pastor Dee-Ann leave a message at the church office or 304-268-8521.
New Street UMC will be holding its annual Peach Festival on Saturday, August 12, from 11:00 am. to 3 pm. Homemade peach pie (by the slice), homemade peach ice cream, peach crisp, other desserts, sandwiches, and drinks will be offered. If available, whole peach pies will be sold after 2:00 pm. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy good food and fellowship.
Back Pack 2017
Once again our church has been invited to participate in the School Supplies project. We have been asked to provide 35 back-packs for kindergarten students.
To participate, purchase a backpack and any of the supplies listed below. Bring them to church on or before Sunday, August 13.
You won’t know the children who will benefit from your generosity, but because you cared, a child will be given a helping hand that could make a difference in his or her life.
Note that this program has changed from previous years; these changes are in response to requests and suggestions from school counselors.
Please carefully follow these directions:
- Do not purchase book bags with water bottles.
- Remove bar-code from book bag label.
- Do not include anything in the bag.
- Attach a red ribbon to the book bag handle.
- Choose from the following list to provide packages of supplies.

packs of wide rule paper Crayons small sizes of shoes, socks, underwear

CPR Training. New Street UMC will be offering a CPR class on Sunday September 10, 2017 from 2-6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. This class is open to anyone, 13 and older, interested in learning how to perform CPR if the need should arise. The class will cover adult, child, and infant CPR and choking as well as the use of an AED machine. We do encourage all who work with youth to take this class. There will not be a charge for the class but there will be a cost of $20 for the CPR card that will be payable at the time of class. The card will be mailed to participants. A Sign-up sheet will be on the table in the hallway. A minimum of ten (10) participants is required for this class.
CHARLES TOWN GHOST TOURS SUPPORT JCCM
Charles Town Ghost Tours is hosting a walk on Saturday, August 12 to raise awareness and money for JCCM. 40% of all admission fees will be donated to JCCM. Admission fee is $12 per person and $10 for each Veteran or active military person. Cameras are welcome and reservations are required.
