Newsletter Deadline for September Issue

Have something interesting to report?  We would love to hear from you.  The due date for items for the combined September issue is Aug. 20 There are several ways to get this information into the monthly newsletters.  Information can be dropped off in the hall way across from Rev. Dixon’s office in the mail box marked “Newsletter” or email to   The mailing address for the church is NSUMC, Attn: New Street NEWS, PO Box 188, Shepherdstown, WV 25443; email at;   the church office phone is 304-876-2362; Any items received after the deadline will not be included in the current Newsletter.


Volunteers will also be needed for the September 2017 Newsletter on Wed. Aug. 30, 2017, starting at 9:45 am. Volunteers are needed to help with folding, sealing, and labeling the Newsletters monthly. Can you help out? Please call the church office at 304-876-2362 or email if you can help.

Help Youth “Buy A Cow”:  During Teen Week, the 20 youth were inspired to give the gift of a cow through Heifer International to an impoverished family in Africa, Asia, or South America.   This gift will not only uplift a family but a whole community.  The youth’s mission is to educate and fundraise for the $500 so they can gift a cow.  Watch for more details on educational/fundraising events.  If you would like to donate to this Teen Week project write your checks to New Street UMC and write COW PROJECT in the memo.  For more information see youth who went to Teen Week: Sam Corum, Jordan Dixon-Gross, Maya Dixon-Gross, Eva Smith or Pastor Dee-Ann.


You are invited to attend a seminar about Planned Giving with Mr. Frank Hill.  This is being sponsored by New Street UMC Finance Committee.  Date: Sunday, August 20, 2017 Time: 11:30AM.  Bring your coffee & goodies. No obligation just informational. Please save the date.

CPR Training.    New Street UMC will be offering a CPR class on Sunday September 10, 2017 from 2-6 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  This class is open to anyone, 13 and older, interested in learning how to perform CPR if the need should arise.  The class will cover adult, child, and infant CPR and choking as well as the use of an AED machine.  We do encourage all who work with youth to take this class.  There will not be a charge for the class but there will be a cost of $20 for the CPR card that will be payable at the time of class.  The card will be mailed to participants.  A Sign-up sheet will be on the table in the hallway.  A minimum of ten (10) participants is required for this class.

New Street Tee Shirts

New Street is going to sell New Street UMC Tee Shirts.  They are a California Blue, Gildan Ultra Cotton shirt and can be purchased for $16.00.  We will begin to sell the shirts Sunday August 20th through October (or longer) during the Fellowship hour, at the Pancake breakfast in September, at the Spaghetti dinner and the Apple Butter Festival in October, as well as at Homecoming.  We will have a variety of sizes to choose from.  If we do not have your size at any time, you may place a pre-paid order for a shirt(s).  A minimum order of 12 shirts is required before order to company can be placed.  The proceeds from these shirts will help to defray costs for the Homecoming celebration as well as sponsor youth and adults for mission trips.  Cash or checks (made out to Carol Goldthorpe) will be accepted.  If you have any questions, please contact Carol Goldthorpe@304-870-4076 or  

New Street UMC Homecoming – Sunday, October 29, 2017

New Street United Methodist Church will celebrate its 150 anniversary Sunday, October 29th with a special worship service and catered lunch.  We will celebrate our past, present and future!  There will be an updated history of New Street UMC available along with a slide show!  Old friends will return and there will be time to reconnect with one another.  It is also a great time to share the renovations and updates we have done to our building with the community.

 To make this happen we will need your financial help.  We are asking you to consider purchasing a ‘piece of cake’ for $20 which will be used toward the catered lunch.  The estimated expenses for the event are around $3,000.  We already help have from some of our fundraisers.  If you are able to donation to our 150th Anniversary Celebration, kindly put your donation of cash or check in the SPECIAL OFFERING BOX .  Checks can be made to NSUMC with Homecoming in memo .  Thank you for your continued support!  Our donation box will be in the sanctuary.
